It is one of the most requested holiday periods of the year because of the school half.

But that didn't stop six Radio 2 top channels from taking a week off this week.

The line-up of hosts was rearranged so that Zoe Ball, Ken Bruce, Jeremy Vine, Steve Wright, Sara Cox and Trevor Nelson could all take a break.

Regular listeners were surprised to hear a large number of stand-in presenters for most of the day – from 6:30 AM to midnight.

Only two of the eight slots had their normal hosts. During the breakfast show host Miss Ball, 48, Fearne Cotton, 37 years old, instructed her Instagram followers to & # 39; off-camping & # 39; used to be.

Radio veteran Gary Davies, 61, stepped into the breach for Ken Bruce, 68, whose show follows the breakfast program.

Bruce seemed to have a quiet week while he spent some time with his turtles. He shared a video of his pets chewing on leaves, with the caption: & # 39; I turned off a wild week. & # 39;

Jeremy Vine, 54, was also on vacation when BBC media editor Amol Rajan (35) took his lunch break. Vine seemed to enjoy a place of culture while visiting the home of author Agatha Christie in Devon.

The presenter, who has two young daughters, shared a video yesterday investigating Greenway House on his Instagram account. Steve Wright (64), presenting the slots from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, had the first part of the week off, replaced by OJ Borg, but was back in the air for his afternoon show yesterday. Sara Cox, 44, who is presenting the drivetime show, is also absent from the air this week, with Vanessa Feltz, 57, set up for the show.

DJ Spoony, 48, has been in Trevor Nelson, 55 this week during his vacation in the Caribbean. The DJ, who is on the program from 10 p.m. to midnight, shared a video of himself from his beach lounger on the weekend.

The decision to launch six top DJs at the same time raised the eyebrows.

In an online forum for former BBC employees and freelancers, one contributor commented: & # 39; Looking ahead this week – from Monday to Friday – I notice that at least six (80%?) 2 are presented by guest DJs in the absence of the lead presenter. The most important DJ's are clearly on leave for half.

& # 39; In the good old days, the annual leave was strictly revised in both office, operational and presentation areas, wasn't it? & # 39; Another member of the community replied: & # 39; I recall that in our terms of service the leave / working hours & # 39; were subject to broadcast needs & # 39;. & # 39;

A BBC spokesman last night defended the holiday rota.

He said: & # 39; When presenters are on vacation, their programs & # 39; s are presented by a series of brilliant Radio 2 talents. & # 39;

The station is the most popular in the UK and attracts 15 million listeners a week. Miss Cotton stood for Miss Ball earlier in March when she took two weeks of leave.
