The excavation of the Edinburgh construction site revealed a range of objects and materials discovered during the groundwork of the hotel from the tenth century.

Objects discovered in the excavation were jewelry, footwear, tools, a drinking vessel, shoes, jewelry and knives.

The excavation is now complete after having lasted more than a year, three times longer than expected, with the hotel scheduled to open in 2021.

The work has also found tombs and walls that mark the original boundary of the city and some discoveries date back to the Bronze Age.

The findings are expected to become a major selling point for a stay at Sir Richard's first hotel in the UK, which has 225 rooms and will create more than 300 jobs.

During a 60-week excavation, a human skull, drinking vessel, shoes, jewelry, and knives, along with a ball used in a giant slingshot and an early cannonball, were discovered at the Cowgate site.

Fireplace, wall panel, structural beams, garbage pits and pits were dug up during the excavation.

The plans for the hotel in the India Buildings on Victoria Street and an adjacent gap site were announced in February last year, with an opening date of 2020.

The Edinburgh City Council archaeologist, John Lawson, said: “This is one of the most important urban excavations ever undertaken in Scotland.

Volledige Full analysis and research is still to be done, but the results of the work have been enormous in terms of scale and quality, and the quality of preservation is excellent.
