Manchester United achieved one of their most dramatic victories during Erik ten Hag’s reign with a result that may well have saved the Dutchman’s job at Old Trafford.

Despite finding themselves 17 points behind bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table, the hosts wasted no time taking the initiative and took an early lead through Scott McTominay.

A strong first-half performance was derailed by back-to-back goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah that put Jurgen Klopp’s side firmly in the driving seat.

However, United’s fighting spirit shone through as Antony came off the bench to force the match into extra time before goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo canceled out a Harvey Elliot goal to secure a much-needed win for the Dutchman. in the end.

FURY IS LOST IN THE COUNTERATTACK

Tyson Fury can only hope he does better when he faces Oleksandr Usyk to unify the world heavyweight title division in Saudi Arabia in May.

Fury left his seat in the directors’ box in the 80th minute with United trailing 3-2 to Liverpool, missing Marcus Rashford’s equalizer and the extra-time drama as United staged a classic comeback.

Fury is hard to miss at the best of times, but the 6ft 9in world heavyweight champion stood out even more than usual dressed in a bright green tracksuit and fedora hat.

He posed for photographs with Sir Alex Ferguson before the game and urged his team to “get stuck in” but will not have enjoyed Liverpool’s quick wall that brought down United before the break.

DIALLO RETURNS TO THE ANO

Amad Diallo’s sensational winning goal was only his second goal for Man United, and came more than three years since his first against AC Milan in a Europa League tie in March 2021.

It was also Diallo’s first for any club since scoring on loan for Sunderland in the Champions Play-off semi-final against Luton last season.
