Sir Elton John has given an update on his health, after being left with limited vision in one eye following a serious eye infection.
The music legend, 77, revealed that he lost sight in his right eye over the summer in France and, as a result, can’t see, read or watch anything.
Speaking to ABC News on Monday about his new documentary Never Too Late, Elton admitted he was unsure of his ability to record new music as he puts all his attention on his health.
He said: ‘It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to move. Unfortunately, in July I lost sight in my right eye because I had an infection in the south of France.
‘It’s been four months since I couldn’t see. And my left eye is not the best. So there is hope and encouragement that everything will be okay, but I’m a little stuck right now.
‘Because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording I don’t know, because I can’t see the lyrics to begin with.
“We’re taking an initiative to try to improve it, but at the moment that’s what we’re focusing on.”

The acclaimed singer-songwriter continued candidly: “It’s never lucky for something like this to happen. And that left me stunned and I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t see anything.’
However, showing his inherent positive attitude, Elton expressed his gratitude for his life and said: “I’m very lucky, I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
‘I’m very proud of the documentary, I’m proud of my children, I’m proud of my attitude towards myself and what’s going on. “I’m just very lucky and very grateful.”
In addition to his current vision problems, Elton has faced a host of other health problems, after having both knees and his right hip replaced following a fall, forcing him to delay his farewell tour in 2021.

She took to her Instagram with a lengthy post, explaining how she spent the last few months ‘recovering at home.’
Elton wrote: ‘Over the summer I have been dealing with a serious eye infection which has unfortunately left me with limited vision in one eye.
‘I am recovering, but it is an extremely slow process and it will be some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.
“I am very grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the past few weeks.”

Elton concluded: “I have quietly spent the summer recovering at home and feel positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far.”
It comes after the EGOT winner admitted “I don’t know how much time I have left” when speaking about the death in his new documentary last month.
In a scene from Never Too Late, Elton reflected on his own mortality and confessed that he often thinks about life and death.

Then he admits: ‘I wonder what will happen to all this stuff when it’s over. This is the last moment of my life. I don’t know how much time I have left.
‘You think about it more when you get to my age. You think about life and death. You think, “Well, I just want to be where I want to be right now.”
And he added: ‘I don’t have to work after this. I will work, record and put on radio shows, but traveling demands a lot from you.
‘It’s very exhausting. I’m used to it. I’m a veteran at this, but this is where you start to think about mortality.

The film features never-before-seen footage including a look at his handwritten diaries, audio tapes of the historic Rolling Stone interview, and John Lennon joining him on stage for three songs after his 1974 Thanksgiving show at Madison Square Garden.
In the lead-up to his final North American concert at Dodger Stadium in November 2022, Elton takes viewers back in time, recounting the extraordinary highs and lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction.
At a screening of the documentary in New York last month, he joked: “To be honest with you, there’s not much left of me.”
‘I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.
‘In fact, the only thing I have left is my left hip. But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you (enough), you are the people who made me.”
The film was directed by RJ Cutler and Elton’s husband, David Furnish, and will be released in theaters this month, before arriving on Disney+ on December 13 (David and Elton pictured last month).

Elton and David, 62, share sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, together. Speaking about his children, Elton admitted: “They worry because they know my age.” Not so much David but me.
‘They love their dad and that’s why they want me to be around forever. I want to be here forever. I want to see them have kids, get married, but I don’t think I’ll be around for that. Who knows? You never know.
‘That’s why I want to make the most of my time while I’m around. Our time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
