Sir Anthony Hopkins was almost cast in Only Fools and Horses, actor John Challis claims.
The movie star, 83, missed the role in the sitcom comedy because he was in the process of filming Silence of the Lambs, says John, 78.
John – who played Aubrey ‘Boycie’ Boyce on the show – said Sir Anthony would have starred as one of the evil Driscoll brothers had he not filmed for his role as Hannibal Lecter in the iconic 1991 film.

John told The mirror: ‘He’s a huge fan of the show and was really interested in doing it. He would have been fantastic.
I can imagine those disarming blue eyes staring at Boycie or Del Boy. It would have been really terrifying. ‘
Sir Anthony won the Best Actor Oscar in 1991 for his performance as Hannibal Lecter and celebrated another Oscars win last month for his role in The Father.

Asked if he might have regretted not appearing on the show, John joked, ‘He’s probably thinking’ if only I did, I would have been an even greater success, ‘while holding on to his Oscar.’
