A homeowner has been warned his home could become a target for burglars after an X-shaped sign was mysteriously left on his front door.
The mysterious symbol, which was made from a pair of leaves, was taped to the screen door of the home in Slacks Creek, south of Brisbane, on Saturday.
Alex Munroe, who lives at the house, said he went out in the morning and found the X sign when he returned shortly after.
He took a photo of the sign and posted it on Reddit to ask others if they knew what it meant.

“Someone left an X made of leaves on the front door,” he wrote.
‘The neighbors didn’t see anything, and it’s most likely just kids playing, but they wanted to ask if anyone else had come across something similar or heard of an event like this.
‘I wonder what we might need to plan.
The post was inundated with hundreds of comments from social media users, who suggested someone could have made the symbol to check if anyone lives on the property.
“I guess I’d say he’s a thief, but not in the way people think,” one wrote.
‘They are marking a house to see if you can remove it. If they don’t remove it, they will know that the occupants are gone.
Others said the sign is commonly used in many European and Mediterranean cultures when someone visits a friend, but the house is empty.
“My grandparents do something similar to let their friends know they’ve visited when no one was home,” one wrote.
The local made the mysterious discovery on Saturday after returning to his home at Slacks Creek (pictured) in Brisbane’s south.
‘Old neighborhood with Italians, Greeks or similar?’ asked another.
“This was an old way of saying you stopped by your house.”
Some said it could simply be a harmless joke and saw the funnier side by suggesting it could be an invitation to participate in a game.
