A 43-year-old woman revealed she “accidentally” slept with a 19-year-old man and is “disgusted.”
The single mother of two teenagers admitted she thought the man she was getting into bed with was in his 20s, adding that one-night stands are “very out of character” for her.
Participating in the British parenting forum Mumsnetshe said that her friend told her she was “thinking too much” about the situation, but was worried what others in her village might think if word got out.
Many rushed to the comments to leave their own thoughts, with some saying he shouldn’t worry about it, while others claimed it was “disgusting.”
the publication read: ‘I’ve done something so bad and I’m really punishing myself for it.’
‘I am 43 years old, divorced and a single mother of two teenagers.
‘Last year we moved to a new town and I have made a great effort to meet people and make new friends.
‘I really like fitness and have joined a circuit training group. This has also become part of my social life.

She explained that after a night out with her friends from the gym, she invited some people over to her house for an after-party while her children stayed with their father.
He added: ‘The guy who runs the training circuit had a couple of friends with him. He is in his early 20s and I assumed they were about the same age.
‘To make a very long story short, after a few more drinks and a lot of flirting with one of the guys who was there with the circuit trying to be the leader, I ended up sleeping with one of them.
‘This is very, very out of character behavior for me. I’m 43 years old and I haven’t had a one-night stand since I was 20.’
However, the next morning, the boy admitted that he was only 19 years old, which made her feel uncomfortable.
She concluded: “I feel really disgusted with myself and I can’t stop thinking about what a huge mistake I’ve made and it certainly won’t happen again.”
“I get on well with the circuit training leader and I spoke to him about this last night and he told me I was overthinking it and just having a bit of fun.
“I still think people would look very poorly on what I’ve done if I were a man sleeping with a 19-year-old woman. Am I thinking too much about this?”
Many quickly took to the comments to assure the woman that she did nothing wrong since the teen was over the age of consent.
On the British parenting platform, the single mother of two teenagers admitted to getting into bed with a man she thought was in his 20s.
Many rushed to the comments to leave their own thoughts and some said you shouldn’t worry about it.
One person said: ‘He’s over the age of consent.’ As long as neither of them were so drunk that they couldn’t give consent, then I don’t see a problem. In fact, I think well of you!’
Another added: ‘He’s over the age of consent and now has a story to tell. You didn’t go out with the intention of sleeping with him and you didn’t ‘target’ him or groom him, that’s fine. I’m not sure I’d mention it to anyone in RL though.
‘My only concern is if your kids are older teenagers and move in similar circles, but if not, don’t worry, apply it to experience and flirt with the over 30s from now on. (And I hope you’re not pregnant; that would be a big Pandora’s box to open.)’
Someone else said: ‘He’s of age, he’s of age.’ I know what you mean by saying it’s weird because I’d feel a little sad too, but what can you do now?
Don’t let that occupy your mind anymore. You haven’t done anything wrong x’
A fourth agreed: ‘You’re thinking too much. It’s not like you’re planning on starting a family unit with him. It was a consensual one-night stand between two adults.
Meanwhile, others labeled it “sleazy” and claimed that if it was a 43-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl, people would be a lot angrier.
One person said: ‘If you were a 40-something man sleeping with a 19-year-old you would be called sleazy and rightly so.
Meanwhile, others called it “sleazy” and said that if it were a 43-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl, people would be a lot angrier.
“It’s not illegal, but it’s shoddy and the people who say don’t punish yourself are typical mumsnet hypocrites.”
‘How would you feel if your son slept with a woman old enough to be his mother?
‘It’s already done, but as the father of a 22-year-old, I can’t believe you didn’t know how young he was, especially considering you have teenagers of your own. I mean, even 20 years old is bleak and again, if you were a man, MN would still look down on you.
‘It’s already done, but learn from it. And I hope he doesn’t brag to his peers.
Another said: ‘Ah, the “I thought they were older” excuse. It’ll be fine here because you’re a woman, but men are idiots if they do it. It is ‘take advantage’.
Someone else said: ‘I don’t agree with all the people saying it’s okay because he’s over the age of consent.’
‘I have a 19-year-old girl and I would be horrified to think that she would be with a 43-year-old man. I don’t think it’s different just because the younger person is a man and you are a woman. I hope your own children are too young to find out about this.
‘Anyway, what’s done is done now and you can’t change the past. I don’t think it was right, but the only thing you can do now is move on and never do anything like that again.’
A fourth said: “Why was it okay in the early 20s? It’s still a bit strange.” If I were a man I would say the typical dirty old man.
‘Why not meet people who are a little older? So you won’t have to be embarrassed the next day.’
