Single mom Jaimee-Lee Watson admits to making a fake call after a night of playing Fortnite

A single mother of five all night playing Fortnite and on a drinking binge makes a fake call to the police claiming her ex ‘had a gun’ and was stopping her and their kids from leaving

  • A single mom spent the night drinking and playing Fortnite before connecting with triple-0
  • WA police realized she and her children were not in danger when they got home
  • Jaimee-Lee Watson was facing possible jail time for ‘out of character’ behavior

A single mother who called 0-3 to falsely claim her ex-partner had been threatening her and their children with a gun had been heard by a single mother who had been drinking all night and playing Fortnite, the court heard.

Jamie-Leigh Watson, 33, was facing up to a year behind bars when she pleaded guilty to making false allegations at Manjimup Magistrates Court in South Western Australia last week.

She made the desperate call in the early hours of October 1, the court heard, claiming her ex-partner was making threats against her and their five children and would not allow her to leave his Greenbushes home.

Two police officers were already on their way home when Watson called for 20 minutes to assure the operator that their safety was no longer in danger and she did not need assistance.

The operator said her police had already rushed the house and would be there in minutes.

When the police arrived at the house, they quickly established that Watson and her children were in no danger.

The court heard that Watson wanted to leave, but was stopped by her ex-partner because she was too drunk to get behind the wheel, Manjimup Bridgetown Times mentioned.

The court heard Watson told police she had made a false claim to the call operator to speed up the response time.

Watson’s attorney Fiona Walsh said her client’s ‘out of character’ behavior was due to him being affected by alcohol and that Watson tried to right the wrong by making the second call

By that point, two officers had been called to duty and were on their way to work, the bulletin said.

The court heard that Watson had previously suffered from substance abuse in the past due to her father’s death.

The police prosecutor told the court that the punishment should reflect the seriousness of Watson’s actions. “I doubt there was anyone else in this room with a belly full of alcohol who would do what I did,” Judge Linda Keene told Watson.

“(The charge) can lead to a prison sentence.”

Watson was ordered to do 40 hours of community service and pay $671.81 to cover overtime costs for the police officers involved, as well as court costs.
