She said of the impact on her performance: ‘As an opera singer you have to hold on to yourself in a certain way when you sing.

“We were rehearsing for a concert one day recently and did a chorus. At the end of the day, I could barely stand due to the pressure my breasts put on my back. Rehearsals are tormenting me now.’

Miss Boreham of Kettering, Northamptonshire, will graduate from the Royal College of Music in Kensington, West London, in June.

She added: “The pain I experience because of my breasts is getting worse and I have trouble standing up straight for a long time to sing.

“I’ve been working to become an opera singer for years, but I’m now at a point where if I don’t get this surgery, I won’t be able to continue.”

She fears she will have to wait a long time for the operation on the NHS, adding: ‘It doesn’t feel right to do extra work on the NHS now.’

Ideally, she wants to reduce her cup size to a C or D.
