March sales increased for the second straight month after a year-long decline, The Straits Times reports.

Watches and jewelry saw the strongest recovery in all segments, with sales up 60.2 percent; clothing and shoes followed with an increase of 35.6 percent. Of this month’s total retail sales, estimated at $ 3.5 billion, about 11.8 percent were spent online.

Whether this recovery will continue is uncertain, however. This week, a surge in Covid-19 cases prompted authorities to reintroduce stricter measures for about three weeks starting May 8.
