Simu Liu reveals the food the A-list are served at the Oscars - and it's not as glamorous as you might think

When awards season hits, the question on everyone’s lips is who the big winners will be.

But in a world full of glamor and glitz, a not so common question is what those who receive the awards ceremony’s golden ticket are offered to eat.

Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu, 34, has now revealed how the stars are kept burning during the film industry’s biggest night of the year – and it’s not as glamorous as you might expect.

Simu took to Threads on Tuesday and gave his official ratings for the snacks offered at the Oscar ceremony and its afterparties.

From sweets to Wagyu beef, here’s all the food this awards season’s A-listers can sink their teeth into.

Simu took to the stage at the 96th Academy Awards – so staying fired up would have been important.

But the actor scored pretzels and sweets hidden under the audience seat only three out of 10.

Host Jimmy Kimmel was in charge of the array of ceremony snacks and claimed he wanted to make sure no one went hungry.

Sharing a photo of the snack box on Instagram, Jimmy said: ‘We don’t like it when people are hungry so Jimmy provided snacks for everyone at the #Oscars and included a donation to @LAfoodbank for each one!’

However, the box was Simu’s worst rated food tonight.

He wrote: ‘Oscars (3/10): Jimmy hid some soft pretzels and grumpy kids under our seats.

‘It wasn’t glamorous but did the job.’

The gold standard for awards ceremony food, the 2024 Governors Ball Banquet offerings were absolutely no exception.

Countless chocolate desserts molded in the shape of Oscar statues accompanied an array of extravagant food.

Simu raved: ‘Gov ball (11/10): This was insane. wood-fired pizzas, paella, Wagyu, sliders, PEKING DUCK?!?’

‘I did nothing but inhale food the whole time.’

Iberico ham, pot pies, tacos, fresh pasta and burger sliders were just some of the elevated comfort treats offered at the party.

The food for the ball was provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering – who also provided last year’s delicacies.

Some of the favorite dishes on offer were

Chocolate Oscars sprinkled with edible gold Piña Colada rum babas, Grand Marnier chocolate cigars with smoking ash, black truffle chicken pot pies, and smoked salmon Oscars.

The food offered at the Vanity Fair Oscar party is one of its most iconic features, with In-n-Out burgers on tap.

And while it wasn’t quite up to par with the Governors Ball’s food selection, Simu applauded it for its satisfaction.

‘Vanity fair (7/10): ah the infamous party with in-n-out burgers on a platter,’ wrote Simu. “It can’t go wrong.”

Strictly a no camera affair, happenings at what has simply become ‘The Party’ are often kept secret.

But with Simu’s food reviews comes some insight into what coveted guests can find inside the party – which this year was hosted by Madonna.

Simu revealed: ‘Madonna (9/10): Full spread of curry, rice, naan and samosas. I was just too full lol.’

The Queen of Pop herself also shared a behind-the-scenes look at her annual Oscar party following the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night.

‘Oscar Party was FUN!’ she subtitles her slide show. ‘Not exactly a night off for a girl who needs a night off, but I’m so glad I got to meet my favorite actor! #cillianmurphy – Congratulations!’
