Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in US history, has agreed to compete in the US Classic on May 18.
Along with the U.S. Championships and the Olympic Trials, the event is one of three major milestones on the road to the 2024 Paris Games.
This year’s Classic will be held in Hartford from May 17-19.
Reigning Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Sunisa Lee had been the headliner of the initial draw prior to Biles’ registration.
Lee, who became the sixth American woman to win her sport’s most coveted title at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, is considering a bid for this year’s Paris Games. Lee, 21, has been hampered by health problems for the past two years, but she competed in the Winter Cup in Louisville in February.

Biles seemed laser focused as she competed on the uneven bars during her brilliant comeback.
The initial field for the event scheduled for May 17-19 also includes 2020 Olympic floor champion Jade Carey, six-time world championship medalist Shilese Jones, former NCAA all-around champion Trinity Thomas and four-time world championship medalist world championship Leanne Wong.
The meet is the next major event in the lead-up to the US Olympic Trials scheduled for late June in Minneapolis.
Biles was named AP Female Athlete of the Year in 2023 after making a notable return to the sport following a disappointing performance at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Her triumphant return, which included her eighth US national championship and a sixth world gold, made Biles the sixth woman to claim the AP honor for the third time.
The last time Biles greeted the judges, she was winning a bronze medal on the balance beam at the end of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the end of a tumultuous two weeks in which she made her decision to withdraw from multiple finals due to ‘the turns’. (think giddiness in the air) she dragged the sometimes uncomfortable conversation about athletes and their mental health into the spotlight that only the Games provide.
The 26-year-old has been regularly sharing updates from his life with his NFL husband, Jonathan Owens.
Reigning Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Sunisa Lee will also be at the US Classic.
Although he received near-universal praise for his bravery in putting his safety first, a quick review of his social media mentions showed that not everyone agreed.
He subsequently took a two-year hiatus and went into what he called a “protective shell.” She dove deeper into therapy as she sought a return on his terms.
Still, that didn’t stop doubts from taking over. Only this time, instead of letting her anxiety eat away at her confidence, she accepted her presence, took a deep breath, and put on the kind of show that is hers and his. only.
“I did a lot better than I thought I would,” Biles said.
It’s the same as always.
Biles previously won the AP honor in 2016 and 2019, times in her life she barely recognizes now.
She was still a teenager after her stellar performance at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She still lives at home with her parents. Her world still revolved around the spaceship of a gym her family built in suburban Houston.
