Gymnastics great Simone Biles appeared to take a swipe at former President Donald Trump on Friday.
“I love my black job,” she posted after winning her second gold medal at the Paris Olympics, cementing her status as the most decorated American gymnast in history.
Trump has used the term “black jobs” on several occasions, including his controversial appearance before the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago, where he argued that immigrants were taking away “black jobs.”
Trump was already being mocked online for the term, as a popular meme was created about Vice President Kamala Harris when she became the presumptive Democratic nominee.
The meme shows an image of a smiling Harris walking through a curtain: “Did someone say ‘black job’?” – a suggestion that the top White House job fits the description.
Simone Biles appeared to take a swipe at former President Donald Trump on Friday, writing “I love my black job” on social media.
The term Trump has been used in memes, including one by Vice President Kamala Harris suggesting a “black job” is president of the United States.
Biles’ criticism comes after comments made by Trump’s running mate JD Vance resurfaced in which the Ohio Republican called the gymnast “weak” for withdrawing from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
“I think it’s obviously understandable that she was under an incredible amount of pressure,” Vance said at the time.
“What I find strange about this, and what is reflected more in the media than on Simone Biles, is that we have tried to turn a very tragic moment (Simone Biles’ departure from the Olympic team) into this act of heroism.”
“And I think it reflects rather poorly on our kind of therapeutic society that we try to praise people not for their moments of strength, not for their moments of heroism, but for their moments of greatest weakness.”
Vance added: “Being an athlete at that level is incredibly tough… a normal response at this point would be to say, ‘It’s a shame she’s going through this. It’s a shame she’s stopped doing it.'”
“But instead, what our press has done, I think, is turn this into some weird therapeutic moment. ‘Let’s praise her for doing this.’ And I think that’s really where the problem lies,” Vance said.
Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Games after suffering from “twisties,” a form of mental block that can cause gymnasts to lose their spatial awareness in the air, potentially leading to dangerous accidents.
She has been very public about putting her mental health first and continues to promote her attendance at therapy.
This week, she first helped Team USA win the gold medal in the team all-around, and then on Thursday, she won the gold medal in the individual all-around, making her the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history.
