‘He has agreed to put his health first’: Simon Cowell ‘will NOT appear AT ALL in the Britain’s Got Talent final after breaking his back … leaving bosses to look for a replacement’
- Simon, 60, broke his back after falling off his new electric bike in Malibu
- The star underwent six hours of surgery to place a metal rod in its back
- It had been hoped that he would appear in the BGT Finals in person or via video connection
- However, one source has said that appearing virtually was ‘just not feasible nor sensible’
- They added that Simon’s injuries are healing well, but ‘flying half the world is not part of the plan’
Simon Cowell is reportedly not going to appear in the final of Britain’s Got Talent at all.
The 60-year-old entertainment mogul broke his back earlier this month after falling off his new Swind EB-01 bike at his home in Malibu.
While it was hoped he might be able to make an appearance via video call for the already postponed shows, it now turns out that he won’t be seen at all.
Will not appear: Simon Cowell reportedly will not be seen at all in the finale of Britain’s Got Talent after doctors told him to put his health first after his cycling accident
A source said The mirror: ‘It was decided that the idea of having him rate the BGT finalists via a link was simply not feasible – nor sensible.
‘Everything is certain, he just needs healing time. Flying halfway around the world is not part of the plan and he has committed to putting his health first. ‘
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Simon Cowell and BGT for a comment.
ITV bosses would now be trying to find a replacement for Simon in time for the shows that start filming in two weeks, with Piers Morgan as a suggestion.
Accident: The star broke his back earlier in August after falling off his new electric bike while testing at his home in Malibu (pictured on another bike in April)
However, a source said this would have been ‘impossible’ due to his ‘falling out’ with another BGT jury, David Walliams.
The shows have already faced delays due to coronavirus limitations. Although the audition episodes were shown in April, the live finals had to be postponed.
The recordings have also been changed to ensure that crew and acts can stay at a social distance and that there will be a virtual audience.
Rather than live shows, the episodes are pre-recorded and shown in what would have been the X Factor prime-time Saturday night.
New Rules: Simon is currently in LA with longtime partner Lauren Silverman (pictured together last year)
Simon broke his back after falling off his new bike and underwent six hours of surgery to insert a metal rod into his spine after the bizarre accident.
After speaking exclusively to MailOnline about his surgery, sources close to the family said, “He is cheerful and knows he had a happy escape and this could have been worse.”
And within two days, Simon would be back on his feet, walking around and even taking phone calls despite reportedly ‘weeks’ of physical therapy.
The family sources added: ‘He’s doing really well considering everything.
‘He’s already walking around, of course he has to be careful, which is to be expected given the surgery was only a day ago.
‘Simon even went to work yesterday and today he has been emailing on his iPad since early in the morning. He is cheerful and knows that he had a happy escape and this could have been worse, ‘they added.
Power: The Swind EB-01 is said to have an official top speed of 100 km / h, but with ‘a little tinkering’ up to 80 km / h (stock photo of the electric bike)
