Signing Barcelona star Lionel Messi ‘is not PSG’s immediate priority’ with French side aiming to renew Kylian Mbappé’s contract

  • Signing Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is not the priority for Paris Saint-Germain
  • PSG is currently more focused on getting Kylian Mbappé to sign a new deal
  • Striker has been integral to the squad’s success since coming over from Monaco
  • Mbappé’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and PSG is determined to keep him

Paris Saint-Germain’s priority is to extend Kylian Mbappé’s contract rather than pursue a move ahead of Lionel Messi.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of June and PSG is seen as a possible destination for him this summer.

However, as reported by The team, while PSG are in touch with Messi, they are more focused on retaining Mbappé’s services.

Pursuing a move for Lionel Messi, who is out of contract this summer, is not a priority for PSG

Mbappé sees his current PSG contract expire in the summer of 2022.

Reports in Brazil this week indicated that PSG had offered Messi a two-year deal with an option for a third, but it seems there has been no formal approach.

Mbappé has scored 37 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season and PSG, including manager Mauricio Pochettino, wants to ensure the 22-year-old stays with the club for the long haul.

Messi was strongly linked to PSG when it emerged that he could leave Barcelona last year.

French international Mbappé, meanwhile, is questionable for PSG’s Champions League semi-final return match against Manchester City next week.

The fast forward has a calf problem and would be a big loss for his side, who have to chase goals at the Etihad.
