Sidney Powell, one of Donald Trump’s former lawyers, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 US presidential election.
Powell appeared in court in Fulton County and pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with the performance of electoral duties.
Sidney Powell pleaded guilty in Georgia
Powell, along with Trump and seventeen others, was charged with violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering law.
They are accused of launching a vast plan to keep the Republican president in power after he lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden.
Powell entered her plea just a day before jury selection was set to begin in her trial.
She became the second defendant in the sprawling case to reach a deal with prosecutors.
The acceptance of a plea deal is a remarkable turnaround for a lawyer who has vigorously pushed conspiracy theories about the theft of the election.
