The terrifying incident unfolded at Park Center on Albany Highway in East Victoria Park in Perth’s south-east about 1.25pm on Tuesday.
The boy suffered injuries to his face.
Neither the mother nor the child knows the woman.
The search continues for the woman, who is described as having a medium build and was wearing a pink T-shirt, gray shorts with white stripes and blue sneakers.
Anyone with information about the woman’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The incident comes after another shocking attack on an innocent baby.
In August, nine-month-old baby Luka was injured by a stranger while on a picnic with his mother in a Brisbane park.
The woman (pictured), who was wearing a pink T-shirt and gray shorts with white stripes down the side, fled the scene and has not yet been located by police.
Police allege that a man approached the baby and poured a thermos of hot coffee on him, burning his face and chest.
The 33-year-old was identified by Chinese media after he allegedly fled the country on his own passport a day before being identified by Queensland police.
Luka suffered severe burns to up to 60 per cent of his body and underwent four surgeries, with the possibility of also needing a skin graft.
