The investigation into a tragic incident that left a young woman with horrific injuries at the Melbourne Royal Show is edging closer to a resolution.

Shylah Rodden was in an induced coma for weeks after being hit by the Rebel Coaster ride and suffering a brain injury on September 24, 2022.

The 26-year-old was trying to retrieve her phone after dropping it on the tracks in an incident inadvertently captured on video by a bystander.

WorkSafe Victoria has finalized the brief of evidence in the case and handed it over to lawyers. 7News reported on Friday.

Lawyers will use that evidence to decide whether any action should be taken against the operators and organizers of the show.

The major update came three months after the two-year deadline to take action.

The Rebel Coaster returned to the Melbourne Royal Show in September last year, despite the ongoing investigation.

Rodden’s family released a statement around the same time to say that internet trolls were impacting Shylah’s recovery with their constant abuse.

Kylie Rodden said her focus was on supporting her daughter and helping her move forward with her life.

“We are very grateful to see his progress after the horrible injuries he suffered,” he said in September 2023.

“She has defied the odds.”

The family previously said they had been reluctant to speak out due to the “relentless abuse and criticism” directed at Shylah.

‘What happened was a tragic accident that we as a family had to face. “Hearing and reading the negative comments made in the media and on social media has been painful for Shylah and our family,” the statement read.

‘This type of negativity has a real impact on the progress that has been made. We have done our best to protect Shylah from these comments, as many of them have been misguided and, in many cases, cruel.

“Unfortunately, Shylah has seen these comments and they really affect her.”

Rodden said he hoped his statement would help people understand how hurtful some of the comments were.

“Our hope is to continue moving forward and allow Shylah to continue her recovery and focus on the incredible progress she is making,” he said.

The Rodden family also said they were eager to get an outcome of the WorkSafe investigation.
