England are set to return 35-year-old Chris Jordan as they look to defend their T20 World Cup in the Caribbean in June, with Chris Woakes excluded from the 15 to be named on Tuesday.

Jordan has played in just four T20 internationals since Jos Buttler’s team won the trophy in Melbourne in November 2022.

But with selectors looking for a high-impact all-rounder following a back injury to Surrey’s Jamie Overton, they settled on a player with extensive T20 experience.

Jordan has spent the winter playing for Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’s Big Bash League, Gulf Giants in the ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates and Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League, and his rope-clearing ability hasn’t gone unnoticed.

He made 59 off 20 balls against Perth Scorchers in November, 30 off 15 against Adelaide Strikers in January and an unbeaten 30 off 12 in the PSL against Peshawar Zalmi in March.

Whether Jordan plays much in the Caribbean, where England will begin their defense against Scotland in Barbados on June 4, is another question.

But the selectors showed their faith in him by picking him in the semi-final and final in Australia 18 months ago (his first matches of that tournament) and are now betting once again.

Meanwhile, England will also include Ben Duckett in their squad, along with Lancashire left-arm spinner Tom Hartley.
