Aldi Australia customers are obsessed with a new $8 snack that is said to taste exactly like a long-loved British treat.

The supermarket giant surprised food lovers with the launch of Katja Biggetjes lollipops priced at $7.99.

The product was launched as part of Dutch Week’s ‘Special Buys’ and hundreds of shoppers compared the purchase to Marks & Spencer’s popular Percy Pig – a pig-shaped gummy that is available in raspberry, strawberry, cherry and grape flavours.

Images shared on Facebook alerted others to the limited edition product that is now on shelves.

“Just like the M&S Percy Pigs,” wrote one.

“They’re my favorite. I always buy several bags and then I get sad when I eat them all like the pig that I am and I wish I had more,” said another.

“I love these! I bought about six packs last year to last me all year,” added a third.

Someone else wrote: ‘These look just like the Percy pigs you gave us from the UK!’

An Aldi spokesperson told FEMAIL: ‘We’re always delighted when customers rave about one of our Special Buys products.

‘For those who don’t know yet, Katja Biggetjes are soft Dutch candies made with real fruit juice, natural colouring, and are vegan and gluten-free, making them the perfect gift.

‘Flavoured in strawberry, raspberry and cherry, these delicious little pigs are available now as part of the Dutch Delights Special Buy range for $7.99.

‘But they won’t last long, so grab them before they get all these little piggies.’

Maraya, who runs the website ‘Stuff Mums Like’, stumbled upon the snacks and posted a series of images on Facebook.

“It’s American Food Week at Aldi! There are so many fun treats to try. It would be so fun to host an American Food Night with your kids so they can try things they’ve only seen in books and on TV,” she wrote.

‘I got some Hershey Kisses to use on the elves (a little pre-planning).’

Customers can purchase Reese’s, Twinkies, Pop Tarts, Jelly Belly candies, Twizzlers, Butterfinger candy bars, Baby Ruth candy bars, Hershey’s Cookies n Creme chocolate and pretzels, Junior Caramels, Milk Duds and a Smores kit.
