‘Shrinkflation’ strikes again: Customers outraged by the size of the new Cottee’s jam jar
- Shoppers fear that the 500 gram Cottee’s jam jar is no longer available
- The 500g jar is not available online and in store clearance
- A 375 g jar is available for the same price
Customers are outraged after noticing that a popular jar of Cottee’s jam has disappeared from shelves, fearing it will be replaced with a smaller size for the same price.
A customer claims that the 500g jar of Cottee’s apricot jam, priced at $3, has been secretly discontinued – but a 375g jar is available new for $2.80.
A conversation about “shrinkage inflation” sparked on Reddit after comparing the two sizes at the store.
“The old 500 gram Cottee’s jam was $3 at my local Woolworths. The new 375g jars cost $2.80,” the Redditor wrote alongside an image.
‘The old 500 g jar has been put on sale and is gone for good. Buy them while you still can.’
It seems all flavors have been incorporated, not just apricot.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kraft Heinz, the company that owns Cottee’s, for comment.

Hundreds of people responded to the Reddit post, and many were disappointed.
“Absolutely criminal that it’s over 1/5 smaller, but still almost the same price,” one Redditor wrote.
‘What a joke,’ said another, a third added: ‘Always look at the unit price – price per 100g.’
Others were skeptical, and one person wrote, “I thought they always had two sizes. It seems unlikely that they will phase out the regular 500 gram jars.’
A number of products have skyrocketed in supermarkets due to inflation – from diapers to washing-up tablets.
Other products include Coles Mud Cake, Ritz Crackers and Kettle Chips.

Earlier this month, Woolworths began selling a box of Cadbury favorites for a whopping $32.
The price of the box of chocolates, which recently removed two popular treats, has angered Australians, who say it is ‘ridiculous’. Others joked that you need Afterpay to finance the purchase.
Favorite boxes are sold in different sizes depending on the retailer, making it more difficult for customers to compare prices.
However, the $32 box works out to a whopping $3.90 per 100 grams, while the “regular” box costs $2.12 per 100 grams.
