Big W customers are rushing to snap up a pair of $10 ballet flats after an eagle-eyed shopper noticed they look exactly like a $1,150 pair.

Big W’s mesh ballet flats, $10, bear a striking resemblance to luxury brand Alaia’s fishnet ballet flats, which went viral across Europe this summer.

Brisbane-based mum and stylist Sarah Strozkiy was so impressed with the newly launched shoes that she posted a video praising them to her 90,000 Instagram followers.

“With the current economic situation, my goal is to offer affordable looks that cheer me up,” she said.

“Ten dollars from Big W is more than enough to fill my soul with stylish fashion,” said Sarah.

She loved the style and comfort of these shoes, which are easy to wear and are a simple way to add an elegant touch to any look.

Women went wild over the fashion find, describing it as absolutely stunning and couldn’t wait to get their own pair.

“How nice,” said a woman.

Some fans said that more expensive knockoffs of the viral mesh ballet flats from Sportsgirl or Decjuba (which sell for $60 to $70) were much better quality.

But Sarah noted that for many women who struggle financially but still want to “feel pretty,” spending more isn’t always an option.

Fashion fans old enough to remember mesh ballet flats from 15 years ago were deeply divided over the trend’s resurgence.

“Not this again,” said one woman.

“I like them! Fuck trends! Wear what you like. Life is too short,” said another woman.

Sarah praised Big W’s classic Mary Jane ballet flats, also $10, as a great buy for those who aren’t fans of the more modern mesh style.

She thought Big W’s Mary Janes were a great knockoff of the popular Tony Bianco Bambi Venice Flats, which sell for $179.95.

“Big W is so underrated. I’m the worst indecisive clothes shopper but I always find something there and leave happy,” said one woman.
