Shocking photos show the catastrophic damage to a regional Victoria home after it was hit by a truck, tragically killing the two elderly occupants inside.
Emergency services were called to reports that a truck veered off the road and crashed into a house on the Princes Highway, in Tower Hill, near Warrnambool, shortly after 7am on Friday.
An 81-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman who were in the front bedroom of the house died at the scene.
The driver, 70 years old and the lone occupant of the truck, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is understood the truck, believed to be traveling from Port Fairy to Warrnambool, was unloaded.
Photos from the crash site show the truck’s windows blown out.
The impact left broken glass and debris scattered across the yard.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene and investigations are continuing.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were called to reports of an incident in Tower Hill at around 7.05am.
“One person has been transported by road ambulance to Warrnambool (base) hospital,” he said.
Police are allowing trucks and heavy vehicles to pass through the road while other traffic is diverted onto Gormans Road.
The truck demolished the front of the house, leaving part of the wooden structure hanging in the back of the vehicle.
The accident occurred in Warrnambool, a town on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.
