A woman has been branded the ‘Karen of the train’ after a now-viral video showed her putting her feet on another passenger’s seat and refusing to put them down.
The video, which was initially posted to TikTok by user Joséphine Alarie and reposted on X, captured the moment an elderly woman refused to move her feet from her train seat while traveling from Harlem to Connecticut.
in a video posted by Joséphine, She explains that she takes the Metro North train around 9:50 pm every night from New York City to get to her job upstate.
“At this time of night it’s always pretty crowded,” he explained in the 10-minute video, adding that he had to pass through a few carriages before he could find a place to sit.
The video, which Joséphine Alarie (pictured) initially posted to TikTok and reposted on X, captured the moment an older woman refused to move her feet from her train seat.
The woman told her there were “many” other places she could sit and that she wanted to put her feet up, and when Joséphine said no, she began insulting her and muttering to herself.
Joséphine finally found a place to sit, across from an older lady who was sitting in a two-seater in front of another two-seater.
She recalled that “there was no one sitting next to her or in front of her” and that there was “plenty of space” when she sat down.
The moment Joséphine sat down, she said the woman began having problems with where she was sitting.
“The moment I sit down, she leans toward me and says, ‘Can you move to the seat next to me?'” he recalled.
“She says, ‘I want to put my feet where you’re sitting.’
Joséphine said she looked at her perplexed and told the older lady she wasn’t going to move.
The woman responded by telling her that there were “many” other places she could sit and that she wanted to put her feet up, and when Joséphine said no, she began cursing at her and muttering to herself.
According to Joséphine, the woman begins to slide in her seat until she is completely stretched out and her feet are now touching her, with her feet against her legs.
While Joséphine was upset about the situation, many commenters on social media said that both women were acting like children and that she should have moved out.
“I said, ‘I’m sorry, ma’am, but you’re touching me. I would really appreciate it if you didn’t,” she recalled.
The older woman apparently responded: ‘Oh well, you’re sitting where I want my feet, so I’m going to keep touching you until you move.’
Joséphine said the woman then escalated things by moving her foot on top of the seat next to where she was sitting.
‘When I started screaming, she put her foot in my face, (her) dirty bottom of the sole,’ she said, perplexed.
The conductor then approaches, where the woman, who claims to be 75, continues to step on her, prompting Joséphine to angrily say: ‘How the fuck dare you?’
According to Joséphine, she suffers from anxiety and began having an anxiety attack while the argument was going on, which was mocked by the woman.
The police were eventually called, but according to Joséphine he only received a ‘slap on the damn wrist’ and the TikTok creator was moved to another seat.
Joséphine later posted an update, saying she found out the woman’s name and went to the police to file a harassment and assault complaint, but was told there was nothing they could do to help her.
‘(They said they can’t help me) because she didn’t do me any physical harm, I’m not hurt, she didn’t harass me (using a deep verbal threat), and technically speaking she is “outside her jurisdiction as an NYPD cop to handle the situation because there are police officers on MTA Metro North trains dealing with this.”

While Joséphine was upset about the situation, many commenters on social media said that both women were acting like children and that she should have moved out.
‘Haha, I can’t believe it’s been so long. Be an adult and move next time,” one wrote.
‘Honestly, I think it would have been easier for you to just move away. However, I think that when the police got involved they should have moved her. Not you. “She was the problem and they should have kicked her off the train,” said another.

‘Yes, she was nasty, but so are you, and you just posted this because (because) you knew you would get a lot of views on this because (because) there’s a lot of screaming. You’re both annoying.’
