A 36-year-old man has been caught by police after allegedly breaking into a construction business when he jumped from the roof onto the bed of a truck.

A suspected thief was caught by police after making a daring jump from a roof onto the back of a truck, not realising that officers were just metres away.

The 36-year-old man allegedly stole several sets of keys from construction company D&W Builders on Coburg Street in Alberton, in Adelaide’s west, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called to the business after the alarm was activated, but were unable to find the alleged intruder.

CCTV obtained by Nine news The man was captured jumping from the roof onto the back of a truck, before clutching his ankle and screaming in pain.

The 36-year-old then attempted to walk away from the business, causing his pants to fall down in the process, until a nearby officer spotted him.

The man was arrested and taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of a suspected broken leg.

Previously, CCTV footage showed the man inside the property allegedly smashing a window to gain entry to a building.

Police believe the man was at another nearby business earlier that night where a glass door was allegedly knocked out and smashed.

“The man was found to be in possession of screwdrivers, gloves and numerous sets of keys that were allegedly stolen from the business,” police said in a statement.

Donald Fry, owner of D&W Builders, said he received a call from his alarm company in the early hours of Saturday, alerting him that something was wrong.

“I looked at my cameras and saw that we had been robbed,” he told the publication.

‘There was still money on the desk and he didn’t touch it.’

Charges are expected to be filed.
