Shocking moment mom reunites with baby who ‘almost crawled into busy road’ after ‘wasn’t ignored or noticed by anyone’

  • Michael Currid, from Canterbury, found a child wandering on a beach in Kent
  • Quickly approached by a woman who took her child without any acknowledgment
  • Her seemingly impassive reaction to reuniting with her child has gone viral

A mother’s seemingly impassive response to reuniting with her wandering child who “almost crawled into a busy road” has gone viral after creating a furor online.

Footage taken last month on a beach in Dymchurch, Kent, shows Michael Currid, 32, of Canterbury, holding a young toddler as he searches for her parents.

He finds the child crawling up a flight of stairs that leads to a busy road with passing cars.

After asking nearby groups if the child is theirs, Michael is suddenly approached by a woman on the phone and extending her arm to the toddler.

She doesn’t recognize Michael – who places the unnamed child in her arms after the youngster calls her “Mommy” – and then absent-mindedly kicks a ball.

The woman’s lackluster response left social media users stunned after Michael and his graphic designer partner Lex Hartop, 28, who was filming the incident, shared the clip on TikTok Monday.

“So she really didn’t care? Wasn’t worried. Not thankful. Wow,” one wrote, while another said, “The way she doesn’t even thank the guy and continues on the phone even kicks the ball.”

‘Don’t have children if you can’t take care of them! This is sick,” a third social media user wrote, while a fourth said: “Do you know how long it would have taken that baby to crawl too?”

‘I would have gone mad… she didn’t even get off the phone!’ another commented, as one person said, ‘Luckily the baby climbed the stairs and not into the sea.’

Michael was stunned by the exchange when the woman didn’t say a word, as Lex heard the camera say, “Is she kidding?”

“Michael and I were walking along the side of the beach when we saw a baby crawling up a flight of stairs,” Lex said. “We were hesitant at first, then confused.

“The baby crawled up the second concrete staircase leading from the beach to a busy road.

‘We walked past three to four different groups of people – one group on either side of the stairs down to the beach and another two on the beach, about 20 people in total.

“The baby must have crawled a long way and was either ignored or not noticed by anyone. It took about five minutes from noticing the baby to returning it to its mother.

‘We think it was a girl. The baby said “mama” when she saw their mother turn from a distance. The mother said nothing when Michael handed her back.

“We were shocked by what happened and wanted to share it with our friends and family. We didn’t expect it to explode like that,” Lex added.

The couple added that the event left them feeling emotional.
