A family was left stunned after taking a stroll through a safari park, only to discover a hungry lioness was watching them for lunch.

Lydia Calvin, 26, from Bedford, Bedfordshire, UK, caught the bold lioness on camera as she bit the bumper of her car in a chilling moment for the family inside.

During a family day trip to Woburn Safari Park, an unexpected family found themselves victim to the appetite of a hungry lioness after the big cat bit a chunk out of their vehicle during the safari.

At the beginning of the clip, Lydia’s partner points out the lion to one of the couple’s young sons and innocently asks, “Is it going to eat the car?”

The huge cat snuck around the side of the car and peered at the unsuspecting family sitting inside the vehicle as he approached.

The lion then quickly sank its teeth into the back of his Mercedes GLC, an unlikely meal for the big cat.

“He just bit him! He’s a naughty lion,” Lydia’s partner exclaimed in the video.

The cheeky lion managed to make multiple holes in a family’s car during a visit to a safari park.

Describing the incident, Lydia said: ‘At first we didn’t expect as much damage as there was, until people around us were waving and making surprised faces.

‘At that point we realised there was obviously a lot of damage to the car, the whole car shook!

“We haven’t fixed the car yet, in fact we are thinking of selling it, but it will be a fun conversation we will have with the garage.”

Viewers of the video were left in hysterics at the prospect of the family eventually having to explain the situation to their car insurance company.

“I’d like to work for your car insurance company. I’m imagining that I’m going to take the call to make the claim. ‘Yeah, so a lion bit the car,'” one of them wrote along with several laughing emojis.

Another related to the creepy story, writing: “I had bears try to open my door! It was terrifying! I’m glad I didn’t have this.”

“What an interesting story… What happened to your car?” “A lion bit it, my friend,” joked another, imagining the funny conversation.

The terrifying but entertaining incident comes after the terrifying news earlier this month that a Spanish tourist died after being trampled by elephants at a safari park.

The Spanish tourist was horribly crushed to death in front of his screaming fiancée by an angry herd of elephants after he got out of his car to take photographs in a South African game reserve.

The four visitors were driving through Pilanesberg National Park, near the world-famous Sun City resort, when they spotted a breeding herd with three calves by a lake.

The lion was photographed biting the back of the family car, which was a Mercedes GLC.

Despite warnings from his three fellow passengers to get back in the car, the 43-year-old tourist, who said he wanted to take close-ups of the six elephants, got out and walked towards them.

A huge 3.5-ton adult cow that was protecting the younger members of the herd became frightened and attacked the man, and was joined by the other two adult bulls who also attacked.

The screaming Spaniard ran back with his camera through the bushes to safety where his friends were in the car, but was caught by the pursuing pack, knocked down and trampled to death.

Witnesses said all that remained after the 30-second attack was the tourist’s tattered, blood-soaked clothing and the remains of his body crushed into the ground.

A spokesman for the North West Parks and Tourism Board urged people to avoid getting out of their cars in such situations.

“The case has been handed over to police for further investigation,” said Pieter Nel, acting Conservation Director for the North West Parks and Tourism Board.
