AFL great Eddie Betts has shared a horrific racist attack outside his family home.

The video, posted on the former Carlton and Crows’ Instagram page, shows a white car approaching the Betts’ home before someone in the vehicle shouts the N-word four times.

A second camera angle shows Betts’ children and their friends playing basketball within earshot of the shocking insults.

The indigenous football icon was left angry by the incident.

“Aboriginal children deserve to be able to play safely, free of racism and abuse over the fence,” he posted.

Eddie Betts has revealed that his children received vile racist abuse in his own home.

An exasperated Betts shared footage of the incident on his Instagram page.

‘We are not even safe in our own homes. If you know who this is, please let me know I’m open to discussing how much this hurts our children.

The football world eluded Betts and condemned the vile behavior. Melbourne star Christian Petracca added: “Disgusting!!! Thinking of you and the family.

West Coast Eagles’ Liam Ryan said: “That’s f**ked up, bro.”

Marc Murphy, for Carlton, branded the racist “weak as scum”.

A number of other messages of support for Betts came from the likes of Shayn Burgoyne, Steven May, Kysaiah Pickett and Bradley Hill.

Betts is a leading voice for indigenous rights, but fears racism will be difficult to eradicate.

‘They don’t like Aboriginal people defending their beliefs and trying to eradicate racism. It feels like they want to put us back in our boxes where they think we belong,” Betts said.

‘Everyone else needs to do their part and continue to talk, educate and have those conversations.

‘Look (Adam Goodes). He denounced racism and it kept happening to him, and people joined in even though they didn’t know what was happening.

“It’s disappointing to see. We just have to continue educating.

“We are seeing changes, but they are always going to happen.”

Victoria Police has been contacted for comment.
