This is the shocking moment a delivery man collapses in an empty elevator shaft while delivering food to a building under construction – leaving him with a broken spine.

CCTV footage captured the moment the man, known only as Ke, entered the building in Wenzhou, China, on the evening of March 12.

Equipped with a winter jacket and a biker helmet, he does not seem to realize the enormous trap that lies in his path.

Holding two bags of food in his hand, the delivery man continues walking down the hallway, seemingly in a hurry to deliver the meal.

In a breathtaking moment, Ke’s foot slips across the solid ground and straight into empty space, sending him plunging into the abyss.

He disappears completely from view as he falls through the hole and onto the ground beneath him, all the while hanging on to his deliveries.

Speaking to local media on Saturday, Ke said the incident occurred in a factory building where corridor lighting was dim.

He accidentally entered the elevator shaft and fell from the third to the second floor, sustaining serious spinal injuries.

Ke said: “There was no fence around, so once I stepped on it, I fell. My lumbar spine was injured and my bones were broken.

He was then taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery and is currently recovering.

Local police also confirmed the incident, but did not say whether the factory would face legal consequences if it did not properly mark off the danger zone.

This incident comes after a man faced a similar situation in 2017.

A 37-year-old delivery man suffered severe brain injuries after falling down an elevator shaft in Shenzhen, southeast China.

The man was also found to have cuts and wounds all over his body, requiring him to rely on a respirator to breathe.

And in 2016, two warehouse workers fell down an elevator shaft while riding an out-of-control cart.

According to local reports, they were unable to stop their vehicle because the ground was too slippery.

Both men were reportedly slightly injured.
