A pair of brazen thieves stole a bicycle and a package containing human ashes from an apartment complex in crime-ridden New Orleans.
The two unidentified suspects were caught on camera as they calmly walked into an apartment complex on Dauphine Street on July 18. One is seen riding Katrina Brees’ decorated three-wheeled bicycle before noticing a package on a chair and grabbing that as well.
The plain-looking package contained the ashes of a tenant’s niece, he said. World Television.
“I saw them look at my package, look at it twice before leaving and picking it up as an afterthought,” said the tenant, who asked not to be identified.
The footage shows the suspect, wearing a white shirt, entering the building and looking around.
He finally lets the second suspect, who is wearing a blue suit, into the building.

The robbery has left residents like Brees feeling anxious, he said, since it is not the first time his complex has been attacked.
“Watching what happened filled me with panic and it lasted for days,” she told WWLTV. “This has been plaguing our building for a long time.”
In November, five more decorated bicycles were stolen from the lobby, Brees said.
The building’s front door is locked, neighbors said, believing the brazen thieves followed a mailman inside.
The robbery has left residents anxious, as one victim said it is not the first time the complex has been targeted.
The New Orleans Police Department is still searching for the suspects.
The Krewe of Kolossos launched a GoFundMe Page to help replace missing bicycles, famously used in Mardi Gras celebrations.
“The thieves took the working trikes and left behind the trikes that were mostly non-working and in need of repair. With the best of our trikes gone and the remaining ones in need of repair, we need financial help to rebuild,” the fundraisers wrote.
They estimate that each bike will cost around $700 and will take between 50 and 100 hours to sculpt.
