Shocking moment: Australian family kicked out of Vietnam shop for being Jewish

Dani Namdar and his wife Raizel, from the vlog 'That Jewish Family', were visiting Train Street in Hanoi with their two young children when the owner started 'spewing hate'.

A well-known Jewish family was evicted from a shop in Vietnam after the owner said he “does not welcome” people from Israel.

Dani Namdar and his wife Raizel, the Swedish-Australian couple who run the vlog ‘That Jewish Family’, were visiting Train Street in Hanoi with their two young children when the owner started ‘spewing hate’.

They were sitting at a table outside the store when the “pro-Palestine” owner began yelling at them after noticing 3-year-old Mendel wearing a kippah.

“Get out of my shop. Get out! Don’t sit there. My shop doesn’t accept people from your country,” he told the family.

When Mr Namdar asked if his family was being expelled because they were Jewish, the shop owner said: “No, no, no. I’m not welcome.”

Mendel said the man told him he should take off his kippah and told his mother, “I want to keep it on… we keep it on even when we sleep.”

‘That Jewish Family’ shared footage of the incident on Instagram, racking up more than two million views in the past fortnight.

“This is not Germany in 1938. This is a ‘pro-Palestinian’ trader in Vietnam yesterday,” the caption read.

“You say anti-Zionism is not anti-Jewish? We were peacefully resting on Hanoi’s famous railway tracks for a photo shoot when the owner of a “pro-Palestinian” shop started threatening our children when he saw Mendel’s kippah.”

The parents described the incident as “really traumatic” and said it is difficult to explain anti-Semitism to such a young child.

“How do you explain to a three-year-old what he saw? That someone doesn’t like him because of the way he was born,” the caption continues.

“We had many conversations afterwards and it made me very sad that a three-year-old child had to experience such cruelty.”

A second clip showed the owner making an obscene gesture at the family while saying “Free Palestine” and “We only welcome humans and animals.”

When Mr Namdar asked if he was considered “human”, he was met with silence.

At one point, the owner laughed and told the family to be careful with their children because “Israel is sending bombs.”

“Be careful here. The baby is not safe. The bombs are automatic and they fly towards the baby,” the owner said, referring to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The family, however, said that Jews are not victims and will not allow anyone to take away their pride.

“It’s so important to share this because we can’t turn a blind eye to reality. Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism, period,” the message said.

‘I don’t care, try to say it’s not like that, but my three-year-old son was thrown out of the store for wearing a kippah. You can’t convince anyone otherwise.

-And to say that only humans, cats and dogs enter your store, but not us, come on.

Dani Namdar and his wife Raizel, from the vlog ‘That Jewish Family’, were visiting Train Street in Hanoi with their two young children when the owner started ‘spewing hate’.

But not everyone supported “That Jewish Family”; many said they would love to support that man’s store.

“Relax. It’s not like your kids were blown to pieces after being told to get to safety,” one person said.

“Thanks for the amazing review. I will definitely be visiting the restaurant again! That guy is a hero,” a second person commented.

Meanwhile, others described the owner’s behaviour as “absolutely disgusting”.

The family said this was the only anti-Semitic experience they had in Vietnam and that everyone else was very friendly.

‘A comment on the previous post said something along the lines of ‘I’m going to focus on your guys’ response. Everything else is just noise’ and we couldn’t agree more,’ the text concluded.

There may be a lot of hate, but our focus must be on love, because that is what will heal this world.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the family for comment.
