Shocking footage captures the moment a scrapyard worker was run over twice by an angry customer after the company refused to accept his trailer full of scrap metal.
Shane Matherson, 52, ran over Craig Hatchard outside Denron Metals, a scrapyard in Thebarton, an inner west suburb of Adelaide, in March 2021.
The 52-year-old appeared in the South Australian District Court on Monday and was sentenced to three years and one month in prison for endangering life.
The horrific incident unfolded after a heated confrontation between Matherson and scrapyard employees.
Matherson arrived at the business with a trailer full of scrap metal, but was turned away after being told the yard was about to close for the day.
A disgruntled Matherson parked his truck on the other side of the exit, preventing other customers from leaving the yard.
Mr. Hatchard approached Matherson and asked him to move his truck away from the yard exit.
Matherson told the court at trial that he panicked and became distressed when employees pounced on his truck, forcing him to drive away and shoot Hatchard in the process.

Matherson (pictured) said he panicked and became distressed as yard employees surrounded his truck.
CCTV footage, obtained by 7News following a court application, showed Matherson turning this vehicle around and driving towards Hatchard at high speed.
Matherson collided with Hatchard a second time as he lay in the road injured from the first collision.
Hatchard was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to his ribs, shoulders and legs.
The court heard that Hatchard had suffered nightmares since the incident and had become withdrawn and moody.

He added that he was disappointed in the judge for suspending Matherson’s sentence after the court learned of his deteriorating health and cancer diagnosis.
‘When I hit the ground I was completely stunned. I had to suffer the injuries and that, why not him?’ Hatchard said off the court.
