An off-duty Connecticut police officer was suspended for five days after he was caught on camera punching a driver who honked at him for not turning a red light.

Meriden Police Officer Corporal Allen Ganter was stopped at a red light at the intersection of France Street and Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill in December, reported NBC Connecticut.

Thomas Brocuglio pulled up behind Ganter at the intersection and honked at him for not making the right turn.

Brocuglio’s dashboard camera footage captured Ganter getting out of his truck and confronting him.

The officer on duty lunged at Brocuglio, punched him in the face and said: ‘F******ga*****e. Who do you think you’re f*****g with? Do you want to be arrested?’

Brocuglio replied: ‘You will be arrested for assaulting a civilian.’

Pulling up to the light, Brocuglio jabbed his horn before raising his middle finger at Ganter and saying, ‘What are we doing? What are you doing? Waiting all f ***** g day.’

Ganter got out of his truck, flashed his badge and said, ‘You can’t turn right on red you a*****e.’

‘Really? Where does it say that? It says “stop here on red,” Brocuglio replied.

The driver then accused Ganter of being on his phone, and the officer on duty took pictures of Brocuglio’s license plate.

Ganter threatened to ticket him and call his supervisor when Brocuglio asked for his badge number.

That’s when Ganter threw a punch and Brocuglio said, ‘You will be arrested for assaulting a civilian.’

Brocuglio called 911 and said, ‘I was just assaulted by a police officer. He punched me in the face through my window.’

Rocky Hill Police contacted Ganter and body camera footage obtained by FOX61 showed he asked officers if he could press charges against Brocuglio.

‘Does he press charges against me like for breaking up because I yelled at him and stuff?’ Ganter said.

The Rocky Hill officer explained that he was filing assault charges and that he had videotaped the attack.
