Shocked moviegoers stormed out of the Sydney screening of Babygirl, Nicole Kidman’s gripping new-age romance.
The Hollywood actress, 57, plays Romy, a married company boss, who falls in love with her young intern Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson, 28, and they embark on a passionate adventure.
The film features a number of highly erotic scenes, including one in which Romy drinks milk from a saucer before Samuel licks it off her lip.
Several moviegoers were completely shocked by the racy content during a screening of the film at the Westpac OpenAir Sydney cinema on Monday night, with many leaving the cinema halfway through the film after thinking it would be a standard romantic comedy.
A Daily Mail Australia reporter, who attended an advance screening of the sexually charged film, witnessed several older couples leaving the cinema.
One couple left the screening just 45 minutes into the film, while another couple made the decision to stop watching after the sexually charged plate-licking scene.
Shocked moviegoers stormed out of a Sydney screening of Nicole Kidman’s steamy new-age romance Babygirl.
The film is not scheduled for official release in Australia until January 30, but was released in the United States on Christmas Day and in the United Kingdom on January 10.
Since they hit theaters, many other moviegoers have also taken to social media to comment that they had seen people leaving the theater before the movie ended.
One TikTok user admitted he thought it was going to be a romantic comedy and was stunned, adding: “People left and we were in shock the whole time.”
Another unimpressed fan wrote on X: ‘Babygirl is insufferable, what the fuck?’ I had to leave halfway through the movie.
“I watched Babygirl and almost left halfway through the movie, that shit was so boring,” a third commented.
Another said: “Sorry but the Babygirl movie was shit.” He really did it. First movie in a long time where I checked the time and said, “Damn, is it still an hour away?” “I’m surprised I saw it in its entirety.”
On Reddit, one moviegoer claimed that a couple had been “very loud” about their dislike of the film before storming out.
They wrote: “I was at a screening of Babygirl with two couples and me.” Both couples left before the movie ended. I stayed the whole time, but I wish I had joined them, honestly.

The film features a number of highly erotic scenes, including one in which Romy drinks a glass of milk and another in which she drinks milk from a saucer before Samuel licks it from her lip.
‘One couple was older and knew they wouldn’t make it (they obviously didn’t know what awaited them). The other couple was younger and was surprised they left!’
However, other fans took to social media to strongly disagree with the criticism and gushed about how much they enjoyed the steamy romance.
One wrote: “I’m increasingly realizing I’m in the minority for having enjoyed this movie.”
Another shared: ‘I’m in the same boat. “I thought the movie was great, but I’m seeing more and more people who didn’t like it.”
A third tweeted: ‘Loved Babygirl. “I love Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, their chemistry was very natural.”
A fourth commented: ‘OMG this was so good!!!!!!’ and another added: ‘I saw him yesterday. Excellent! Unexpected twists at various points in the film.’
Babygirl’s sexually charged scenes have certainly gotten viewers talking, particularly the unexpected erotic scenes involving milk.
During a wild moment, Nicole’s character Romy is seen crouching down and licking milk from a saucer before Samuel sucks it off her lip.
In another saucy moment, Romy also seductively drinks an entire glass of milk at a bar while Samuel watches.

Several moviegoers were completely shocked by the racy content during a screening of the film at the Westpac OpenAir Sydney cinema on Monday night, with many leaving the cinema halfway through the film after thinking it would be a standard romantic comedy.
In the scene, Samuel already caught Romy’s attention when they are enjoying a few drinks after work with their colleagues.
A waiter then presents Romy with a glass of milk and she realizes that Samuel has ordered the drink for her, prompting her to drink the entire glass while he watches.
As she leaves the bar, Samuel whispers to her, “Good girl,” setting the stage for the intense power-play dynamic in their budding relationship.
Director Halina Reijn has revealed what inspired the sensual scene, revealing that something similar happened to her when she was 30.
Halina, 49, recalled going out for drinks after performing on stage when a famous Belgian actor, who she said was “much, much younger” than her, sent her a glass of milk.
“I drank it and he just left,” she told W Magazine. ‘I thought, ‘How does this guy get courage?’ I thought it was very sexy. And I thought it was very funny.’
Nicole also opened up about what it was like taking on what is considered her most erotic role yet, revealing that she was far from fazed by stripping down for the steamy scenes.
“What attracted me to the movie is that it has a woman’s voice,” she shared on The Graham Norton Show.

A Daily Mail reporter, who attended an advance screening of the sexually charged film, witnessed several older couples leaving the theater.
“A lot of movies of this genre that we saw in the ’90s came from the male vision, but this is twisted and told through the lens of a woman.”
Host Graham asked her if she was hesitant to film the sex scenes, but Nicole insisted she was just excited and wanted to go beyond her “comfort zone.”
‘I loved the script, I love supporting women in the industry and it was really good. “It’s exciting and bold, and I’m always looking to get out of my comfort zone,” he shared.
However, Babygirl’s erotic scenes were not without their challenges, as Nicole admitted that she had to pause filming the intense scenes at one point.
According to The Sun, he said: “There was a huge amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, ‘Don’t touch me.’
“There were times when we were filming and I thought, ‘I don’t want to have an orgasm anymore.’ Don’t come near me. I hate doing this.”
”’I don’t care if they never touch me again in my life! I’m over it.’ “He was so present the whole time for me that it was almost like an exhaustion.’
The cast met with an intimacy coordinator for the saucy scenes, and Nicole believes she was able to play the saucy moments because Halina was a director.
Nicole hasn’t been afraid to push boundaries during her 40-year career, and starred in sex scenes in the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut with her then-husband Tom Cruise.
