Nicole Leavitt-Kennedy, a marine biologist for Island Quest Whale Watching, told CTV: & # 39; They had a large 12-15-foot white shark that essentially ate a seal from one of our seal rocks. & # 39;

She explained that there are different types of sharks in the area, including large whites, giant sharks and blue sharks.

And while seeing attacks on seals and other animals is not an everyday event, she says they are not rare.

She added: & # 39; I'm not going to say they are as normal as you would see them every time you go out to the ocean – but they are there. & # 39;

She said: & We have viewed the same seals, poor thing! There have been several major white attacks on seals in this area. Forbidden to swim! & # 39;
