Shilpa Shetty has condemned the “media trial” and the “rumors and allegations” surrounding her husband’s arrest for allegedly producing pornographic films.
The Bollywood actress, 46, said she is a “proud law-abiding Indian citizen” when she broke her silence in an Instagram post on Monday after husband Raj Kundra was refused bail last week.
The 45-year-old was arrested in Mumbai on July 19 by police, who said they had “sufficient evidence” that he is a “key conspirator” in a porn production run. He has denied the allegations.
Publishing or transmitting ‘obscene’ material, including porn, is illegal in India under a 2015 law and is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
In her post, Shetty said, “Yes! The past few days have been challenging on all fronts. There have been many rumors and accusations. Many unjustified accusations against me by the media and also (not so) benefactors.
‘A lot of trolls/questions asked…not only to me but also to my family. MY POSITION…I HAVE NOT YET COMMENTED AND WON’T COMMENT ON THIS CASE AS IT IS THE SUBJECT, SO PLEASE STOP ATTRIBUTING FALSE citations on my behalf.

“I repeat my philosophy of, as a celebrity, “Never complain, never explain”. I just want to say that as it is an ongoing investigation, I have full confidence in the Mumbai Police and the Indian Judiciary.”
The 2007 Celebrity Big Brother winner made an appeal to privacy in the heartfelt plea posted to her 21 million followers on Instagram.
She continued: “As a family, we use all of our available legal remedies. But until then, I humbly request you – especially as a MOTHER – to respect our privacy for the sake of my children and I request that you refrain from commenting on half-baked information without verifying its truth.
I am a proud law abiding Indian citizen and a hard working professional for the last 29 years. People have put their trust in ME and I have never let anyone down.
“So, most importantly, I request that you respect my family’s privacy and ‘my right’ to privacy during these times. We don’t deserve a media trial. Please let the law take its course.’

According to media reports, Kundra is accused of telling aspiring actresses that they could enter Bollywood through his company Viaan Industries, which allegedly produced pornographic content for Hotshots, an adult mobile app.
The women were then pressured to shoot sex scenes on the pretext of gaining a foothold in the Hindi film industry, police said.
US-based YouTube and TikTok influencer Puneet Kaur said the businessman contacted her on Instagram this year asking to enter a contest on Hotshots.
“This guy was really luring people – we literally thought it was spam when he sent me that DM!? Jesus Christ man rotting in jail,” Kaur posted on Instagram last week.
Shetty allegedly told police that her husband produced “erotica, not porn” and was innocent.
There is currently no evidence that she was involved in the alleged porn production.

Police have seized Kundra and Ms Shetty’s financial records, including details of joint account transactions. They are investigating whether money from the adult content has been invested in Bitcoin, the Times of India reported.
Ms Shetty was questioned by police on Friday. She told them she believed Kundra was innocent and claimed that his brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi was the one involved in the ‘HotShots’ mobile app, which allegedly streamed pornographic content, the Economic Times reported.
She said she was “not aware of the exact nature of the content” on the app, but described it as “erotica” rather than pornography.
Officers try to clone Ms. Shetty’s phone and can also take her in for a second questioning.
Four of Kundra’s associates have become witnesses in the case after telling police they were being asked to remove clips from Hotspots.
The app was eventually removed from the Google Play Store and Apple Store, but they told police that Kundra launched “plan B” – a second app called Bollyfame.
It is just the latest scandal to affect Kundra, who was banned from all cricket-related activity in 2015 after allegations of match fixing during his time as owner of the Rajasthan Royals along with his wife Shilpa, with whom he has two children.
A hugely successful Bollywood actress herself, Shilpa rose to fame in Britain during the Celebrity Big Brother series in 2007 when she was racially abused by Jade Goody and other contestants.
The actress eventually won the series and reconciled with Jade the following year during the British reality star’s battle with cervical cancer.
In 2007, Shilpa rose to fame in the fifth series of Celebrity Big Brother and got involved in a racing row with the late Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and S Club 7 star Jo O’Meara.

Jade had entered the house with her mother Jackiey Budden and boyfriend Jack Tweed, with Jackiey quickly getting into arguments with several other housemates, including Shilpa, claiming she “couldn’t pronounce her name.”
Jackiey was quickly evicted, but friction between Jade and Shilpa continued, before the former made several racist comments, including claiming he couldn’t pronounce Shilpa’s name.
Jade was evicted shortly after in a match against Shilpa, who received 83 percent of the public vote.
She left the house without an audience due to the public response and the number of complaints Ofcom had received about her comments – about 45,000.
Shilpa eventually won the series.
Channel 4 initially tried to downplay the feud as “girlish rivalry” and a “cultural clash”, but was forced to apologize for “editorial errors of judgment” following an Ofcom ruling.
The episode sparked a national debate over what is considered racist language, with the headline “Beauty vs Bigot” in one newspaper.
A famous Bollywood actress in her own right, Shilpa rose to fame in the UK in 2007 when she won Celebrity Big Brother after being racially abused by Jade Goody and other contestants
Jade initially tried to defend herself against accusations of racism, but eventually admitted she had been wrong, before agreeing to join the Indian reality TV show Bigg Boss as a way of making amends.
But just two days after filming, Jade was diagnosed with cervical cancer and flown home for treatment.
She and Shilpa reconciled during her public battle with cancer, which saw her undergoing chemotherapy, and even visited her a few days before her death.
Jade passed away in March 2009.
Last year, Kundra and wife Shilpa welcomed their second child through a surrogate mother.
The couple announced their baby joy via Instagram, with Shilpa telling fans that the newborn has “completed our family.”
She shared the first photo of her daughter Samisha, who arrived on February 15, on social media.
Shilpa and husband Raj married in 2009. They are also parents to son Viaan Raj who was born in May 2012, three years after the couple tied the knot.
