“I feel sober. I feel good, sober, happy,” he told Mayra Dias Gomes at a Rock to Recovery benefit concert last August in Hollywood.

“I think music has kept me alive. I think it’s always the light, that and my kids, that inspires me to live. Music has always been my therapy. It’s helped me get through everything.”

Binzer added: “Recovering addicts have been there. They’ve been to the darkest places and come back. That’s why we always have good content.”

Binzer was found dead on the floor of his Los Angeles home on Monday, and police believe he had been dead for more than 24 hours.

After a lighter and drug paraphernalia were found near Binzer’s body, his death was investigated as an overdose.

Manager Howie Hubberman told People the cause of death was an overdose of “a combination of prescription drugs and drugs purchased on the street.”

Binzer had recently declared himself sober after a three-year battle with substance abuse.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘I’m a lover more than a fighter… but the one I need to love more instead of fighting is myself… Mr. Shifty True Love #SoberAliveAndGrateful (sic)’

The ‘Butterfly’ artist battled drug addiction for many years and was hospitalized in 2012 after losing consciousness and falling into a coma.

Binzer appeared on the VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and the spin-off Sober House.

In his final cryptic social media post, Binzer showed his appreciation for “those who stick around even when I try my hardest to scare them.”

The text accompanying the image was a photo of a person dressed entirely in black, standing in a crowd of people dressed only in white. “Real is rare, fake is everywhere,” the text on the image read.

Binzer’s ex, Soleil Moon Frye, already paid tribute to him in a heartfelt statement last weekend.
