Gaga’s Quinn sees the character working as a music therapist at Arkham Asylum, where she meets and becomes fascinated with Arthur and eventually becomes obsessed with the incarcerated criminal.
The pop star deliberately altered her performance in the film to ensure that audiences could clearly understand that she was “playing a character.”
In an interview with Empire magazine, she said: “People know me by my stage name, Lady Gaga, right? That’s me as a performer, but that’s not what this film is about; I’m playing a character. So I worked a lot on the way I sang so that it came from Lee and not from me as a performer.”
The ‘Poker Face’ singer added that she included ‘a lot of silly notes’ to ensure that audiences didn’t just see Lady Gaga when they saw Lee in the film.
She explained: ‘For me, there are a lot of bad notes, actually, from Lee. I’m a trained singer, right? So even my breathing was different when I sang as Lee.
‘When I breathe to sing on stage, I have a very controlled way of making sure I’m on pitch and that the right rhythm and amount of time is being maintained, but Lee would never know how to do any of that.

Phillips, 53, said: ‘While there are some things that people would find familiar in it, it’s really Gaga’s own interpretation, and Scott’s (Silver, co-writer) interpretation and mine.
“She became Manson’s way of having girls idolize him. The way these (imprisoned killers) sometimes have people look up to them.”
‘There are things about Harley in the movie that were taken from the comics, but we took them and molded them into what we wanted them to be.’
