Stone’s heartbreaking post comes after it was announced that she will receive the Golden Icon Award at the Zurich Film Festival.
She will receive the honor at the festival next month, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the awards ceremony and then screening of her 1996 film Casino, for which Stone received an Academy Award nomination.
Speaking of the award, Stone has said, “It’s an honor to collaborate with the global community and celebrate the deep depth of our art.”
“I am thrilled to be recognized in this capacity,” she added.
Zurich Film Festival artistic director Christian Jungen described Stone in a statement as “a woman Hitchcock would have loved” and a “true icon of the seventh art.”
“Her distinguishing qualities are an irresistible charm, great human depth, the talent to play a whole range of roles and the ability to captivate an audience like no other,” says Jungen.
“At a time when the film business was dominated by men, she held out in her fight against sexism and became an important role model for many women in the film business.”
The festival praised Stone’s versatility, noting that she “refused to be characterized as a man-eating vampire” after her “breakthrough role” in the 1992 classic Basic Instinct.
In fact, the actress, whose memoir recently covered the ills of Hollywood in the New York Times bestseller The Beauty of Living Twice, has proved that she is an extraordinarily versatile character actress.
Stone, who has three teenage sons – 21-year-old Roan, 16-year-old Laird and 15-year-old Quinn – is the fifth consecutive actress to receive the Golden Icon Award.
Past performers to receive the honor include Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere and Sean Penn.
