Sharon Stone, 62, talks about sexual harassment: ‘the director wanted me to sit on his lap’

Sharon Stone is one of Hollywood’s most enduring and versatile sex symbols, as she has managed to work her way from bombshell status in 1992’s Basic Instinct to an enchanting role in the new Netflix series Ratched.

And the 62-year-old was happy to talk about her attractive public image with the October cover of it Town & Country magazine.

In the in-depth interview, the former model talks about how she continues to be asked to take off her clothes, how she feels about what Marilyn Monroe has been through, and about the time a director sexually harassed her by insisting that she his lap sat down.

Stone didn’t provide too much detail on her sexual harassment story with the unnamed director – who denied the story at the time of publication – but she conveyed the tension well.

“He would tell me to sit on his lap to get the direction of the scene,” said Stone.

And when I told him I wasn’t going to sit on his lap, he sent me back to the trailer. And so it was. ‘

The incident took place when she was “ at the peak of her earning potential, ” the magazine explained. Stone reportedly made her most money for Basic Instinct 2 in 2006 at over $ 13 million.

Her sex symbol lingers, which amazes the veteran.

‘People still want to see my breasts. I am 62! It’s like, “Really? Growing up!” But also: “Here are some tits!” ‘She said with a theatrical gesture.

As for how she became known in the early 1990s, she says the public wanted a pin-up.

“People, I think, really needed a sex symbol,” said the Pennsylvania resident.

‘I mean, I never thought I was this sexy … When I did Basic Instinct, I explored my dark side and befriended my dark side. I shouldn’t be afraid of myself. I think people think that’s sexy. ‘

But getting people to expect to always be a sex symbol is taxing.

‘It was very difficult for Marilyn Monroe. She made movies that really mattered like Bus Stop, The Misfits, but she still couldn’t quite get away from that thing. It’s very hard to shake, ”said the mother of three.

There was also a time when Sharon was barely employed due to the old Hollywood rules that are still in place.

“You don’t really get a job between 40 and 60. It doesn’t matter if you’re at the peak of your career or if you just made Casino. That’s it: no work, ”said the movie queen.

Casino came out in 1995.

And now, Stone doesn’t let her 62-year existence get in the way of runways.

‘I think you have to choose how you want to age. People view me as a certain thing, and it gets in the way of them casting me as things I could play, ‘she said.

“But I am sure I have my own destiny, and I now try to approach it as honestly as possible and to be as open as possible to growth.”

A fantastic character: Playing Lenore Osgood in Ratched was a sensation for her. “She’s crazy,” says Stone with a sly smile. ‘And at the same time she thinks she’s really a doting mom who has her sh * t together’

To help her with her role, Sharon figured out the character’s backstory.

“I thought she was probably Doris Duke’s best friend – she was a showgirl who married some rich man and knocked him out,” she said.

“She would try to be classy because the more fabulous she was, the less people knew she came out of nowhere and was a complete criminal.”

Also in the interview, Sharon spoke about money.

She said she made less than $ 500,000 for her role on Basic Instinct and co-star Michael Douglas made a lot more; some reports even say $ 15 million.

And even as her star rose, she had to fight to get a good salary.

‘When I was a global phenomenon and I wanted to make $ 2 million [for a movie]”It was like I wanted them to give me the moon, like I had lost all reason,” said the Sliver star.

“When I wanted four, they said,” We’re not going to pay you $ 4 million for this movie. ”

Stone has something really big to look forward to in 2021: she is releasing her memoir The Beauty Of Living Twice, in which she not only discusses her career and marriages, but also her near-death experience in 2001.
