While it always seemed like a possibility, it certainly came as a bit of a surprise when the Forest Ranger decided to separate from the extreme Barclay Goodrow via waivers earlier this offseason.
Goodrow was seen as a potential salvage candidate for much of the season, but appeared to have earned another lease on life after finishing second on the team with six goals during the playoffs.
That’s exactly why the veteran was said to be upset about the organization’s under-the-table deal with the Sharks to get him off waivers and out of the remainder of his contract.
Goodrow spent his first few NHL seasons playing in San Jose, but they were said to be among the clubs on his list of 15 teams that could not relocate, which included those in “less desirable and non-contending locations.”
The Sharks certainly fit into the latter category after a campaign in which they missed the postseason for the fifth consecutive season and posted a league-worst 19-54-9 record.
But now that the offseason drama is officially behind us, the Sharks’ first-year head coach… Ryan Warsofsky says Goodrow appears ready to hit the ground running as the team nears the start of training camp.
“We talked for a while and it was fine,” he said. NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti“I think he’s turned the page in New York. This is a business and that’s part of life, he’s responded very well and gotten involved. He’s excited and I am too because he’s an important piece for us.”
Goodrow and former Ranger Alex Wennberg They are two of the veterans the Sharks added in hopes they can help smooth the transition for some of their young talent, such as the first overall pick. Macklin Celebrities.
While it’s certainly a change from where he found himself during his time in the Big Apple, the two-time Stanley Cup champion should thrive during his second stint with the rebuilding club.
Goodrow’s point production slowly declined over the years, but he was always praised for the experience and leadership he brought both on and off the ice as a blueshirt player.
As for the Rangers, there appears to be an opportunity for some of their younger talents such as Matt Rempe, Brennan Othmannand Brett Berard to earn a role during training camp.
