Shark attack off the coast of Australia: Man rushed to hospital after being bitten and swimmers are warned to remain vigilant

Authorities have launched an investigation after a man was bitten by a shark off Australia’s west coast.

A spokeswoman for St Johns Ambulance told NCA NewsWire that a man in his 30s was bitten by a shark off Delta Island, west of Karratha on Wednesday.

She said emergency crews were called around 6:30 p.m. to coordinate their rescue to the mainland.

“A boat was dispatched from Varanus Island, then taken to Barrow Island and then flown to Karratha Health Campus around 1am,” the spokeswoman said.

It is unclear if the man will be flown to Perth for further treatment.

The Department for Primary Industries and Regional Development has confirmed that it is investigating the report and is working with local authorities to confirm further details.

Swimmers in the area are urged to take extra precautions when in the water around Delta Island and to adhere to local beach closures.
