Shannen Doherty believes her father’s illnesses influenced her romantic decisions.
The 53-year-old actress candidly reflected on her late father John Thomas Doherty Jr, who died in 2010, and the various health issues he was battling, with the Charmed star admitting it gave her “feelings of abandonment.”

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress, who has been married three times, explained that she realizes it’s something she’s been “projecting” onto herself, rather than being directly influenced by her father.

She continued: ‘But it wasn’t like he was doing that to me.
“It was more that I was projecting that onto myself because I was so afraid that the most important man in my life wasn’t there, that there were parts of me that shut down as I got older.
“And I think we’ve definitely, we’ve discussed this before, guys, where I chose men who weren’t like my father, who weren’t as kind and as courteous and as cool.”
Meanwhile, Shannen has debated getting a touching tattoo in tribute to her late father, but decided against it due to the injection risk.
She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 before going into remission two years later, but revealed that the disease had returned in stage 4 in February 2020, while last summer she revealed that it had spread to her brain and was had become terminal.
She recently said: ‘I want one like the one on my side. I wanted it, my dad’s name.
