‘I’m just getting older and weaker’: Shania Twain, 57, describes the path to loving her own body as she reflects on her battle with self-confidence
Shania Twain spoke candidly about feeling comfortable in her own body this week as she embraces aging naturally.
The singer, 57, admitted she was against plastic surgery and instead found ways to love her own skin rather than alter it.
But it wasn’t easy, as she remembered struggling with self-confidence issues over the years.
Since she started performing on stage at just eight years old, the Queen Of Country Pop has had to deal with her evolving body changes while in the spotlight.
To talk with The mirror on the trip, Shania recalled considering a breast reduction when they got bigger during her teenage years – but she’s “glad” she never went through with it.

Shania admitted that sometimes she chose to keep the lights off in her bedroom because she didn’t like her reflection.
But when she opted for a confident nude photoshoot to get her mojo back, she remembered “forcing” herself through the period to successfully come out on the other side.
The singer told The Mirror: “I say look in the mirror and that’s good. I’m just getting older and weaker – if I hate myself now, what state will I be in five or ten years from now?’
Shania started singing at a young age to provide for her family, continuing that she struggled with her changing body as a youngster.
“When I was a teenager, my breasts got so big. I couldn’t keep them from bouncing so I had to tie them up and wear two bras and loose clothes,” she explained.
Continued: “I just didn’t want these breasts and I thought I wanted a breast reduction, but they settled down. I thought, ‘It’s a good thing I didn’t. That’s what I’m supposed to look like.”
The star always looks sensational in striking ensembles when she takes the stage and doesn’t let age make a dent in her fashion sense.
While Shania has been open about her self-love journey before, last year she admitted to embracing her “menopausal body.”

The singer told The Mirror: “I say look in the mirror and that’s good. I’m just getting older and weaker – if I hate myself now, what state will I be in five or ten years?
She even took the plunge and decided to go topless for the cover of her album Waking Up Dreaming, which came out on September 23.
And talk to People after the bold move, the Don’t Impress Me Much singer exclaimed, “I’m more comfortable in my own skin than ever before.”
“I embrace my body as it changes as I should have from childhood to my teens, as I should be from my toned 20s and 30s self to my menopausal body.” I’m not ashamed of it.
“I want to be brave about it and I want to share that courage in the (album) artwork that I’m directing. This is me expressing my truth and I feel comfortable in my own skin. This is how I share this confidence,” she concluded.
