A close friend and former teammate of Shane Warne has praised the cricket icon’s children, Brooke and Jason, for their Boxing Day tribute to their father.
Brooke, 27, and Jackson, 25, took to the field at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day to pay tribute to Shane during the test match between Australia and India.
The brothers were on hand to lead the crowd in the now-traditional Boxing Day hat-twirling in honor of Shane, who suddenly suffered a heart attack in 2022.
They also raised awareness of the Shane Warne Legacy, which offers free heart health checks at the Boxing Day test, a fixture of the event for the past two years.
Shane’s friend Darren Lehmann interviewed the brothers about the initiative and was amazed by Brooke and Jackson’s touching tribute to their father.
“Well done guys, very proud,” Darren told Brooke and Jackson at the end of the interview on ABC Tribune.

‘Warnie would be down there in tears with something like that, with his kids running around.
“The Warne family would be very proud of the legacy you have started, well done guys.”
During the interview, Brooke and Jackson spoke about how they are dealing with continuing their father’s legacy while also dealing with the pain of his loss.
“We’ve been raised very well,” Brooke told co-host Corbin Middlemass.
‘We have been educated to be strong, tough and respectful.
“I think we’re very grateful that we have amazing parents and that Dad taught us amazing life lessons and we learn them every day.”
Meanwhile, Jackson said seeing the way their father had reacted to adversity throughout his life taught them to be resilient.
“We saw Dad go through a lot of negative and positive things and throughout his life he always came out the other side stronger,” she said.

“Obviously it’s very sad that he’s not here, but he was such a strong person that when we talk about him, we have to be strong.”
Jackson also said that continuing his father’s memory through Shane Warne’s legacy had been “powerful.”
“I think being able to spread the message of heart health and making sure dad’s memory stays alive, whether through cricket or not, is really powerful,” he continued.
‘We just want as many families as possible not to receive the same phone call as us.
“If we can have a tangible product like these machines that check the heart, it means that that will go down, and we just want to spread as much awareness as possible about heart health.”
Shane has three children with his wife Simone Callaghan: Jackson, Brooke and Summer, 22, before divorcing in 2005.

Speaking at the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse, she told how she and her family are “doing well” a few years after the loss of her father.
“We are doing well, we stick together as a family and we have a very good support base… and I have a wonderful boyfriend of five years,” she said, referring to her partner Alex Heath. .
Brooke also told Daily Mail Australia that she ran into her father’s best friend, Chris Martin, while he was on tour with his band Coldplay.
“We had a great time with Chris. It was fantastic,” he said of his most recent visit after attending one of the British rocker’s concerts at Marvel Stadium.
Coldplay honored cricketer Shane during the show, while Brooke and Jackson were in the sold-out crowd when Chris dedicated the band’s hit song Sparks to the late leg spinner.
