Irishman Shane Lowry enjoys the chance to win his first grand title after surviving a marathon third day of the 100th USPGA Championship.

Lowry was one of 78 players who had to complete his second rounds on Saturday morning after bad weather on Friday, but he produced an excellent 64, his lowest score on a major, and followed with a third round of 69 at Bellerive Country Club.

That left at 31 years of age, four shots from Brooks Koepka's advantage and in position to exorcise the 2016 ghosts, when he led by four after 54 holes at the US Open only to fight until a close of 76.

"I told Alan [his brother and caddie] Enter 18, birdie here and we have a good chance tomorrow and that's what we did, "Lowry said." I feel like I'm where I want to be.

"I'm very excited for tomorrow, it's great to have your brother in the bag, your dad is watching and you're going to compete in the final round of a major, he does not get much better, so I'm looking forward to it.

& # 39; I just have to play my own game and be patient. Yes, it's a course (where) you can do birdies, but I think there were a couple of big numbers this afternoon.

"I did not feel like I had my A game out there this afternoon, but it was good for me to shoot the score I did, and I hope to go out and play decent tomorrow and see what happens.

"A day out late tomorrow on a Sunday in a specialization is where I want to be, I've been in this position before, so I know what it's about, I hope I can go out and do a better job this time than the last time."
