The West Village townhouse used as the exterior of Carrie Bradshaw’s fictional New York apartment in Sex and the City is still being trampled by tourists, despite the owner’s attempt to build an iron gate around the entrance.
Incredible footage shows fans of the hit HBO series queuing outside the Perry Street apartment to take a selfie in front of the famous front steps.
A fan is even shown stepping over the “no trespassing” sign so he could take a photo in front of the entrance.
The tourists, all bundled up in winter coats and scarves, didn’t let the cold weather stop them from wandering around the private residence.
According GothamistThe pad’s owner is asking New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission for permission to install a steel and cast-iron gate at the foot of the brownstone’s stairs to keep pesky tourists out.
Any changes to the building must be approved by the local government due to its location in the Greenwich Village historic district.
“My house is now a global tourist destination,” the owner wrote in the application.
“They raise the chain, pose, dance or lie on the steps, climb to the top to look into the living room windows, try to open the main entrance door or, when they are drunk late at night, ring the doorbell” , says the statement continued.

“We also painted graffiti on the steps and carved initials on the front door frame.”
After “20 years of waiting for the fascination with my porch to fade and the fans to find a new object of their devotion,” the homeowner insisted that now was the time to build a sturdier barrier.
She already has a no trespassing sign on the property, but it hasn’t been enough to deter fans of the HBO series.
One frustrated neighbor previously told The Mail on Sunday that at least 50 people an hour descend the stairs in winter, a figure that quadruples during the holidays and summer.
The house was bought in 1996, two years before the first episode of Sex And The City aired.
In 2020, the three-story townhouse was estimated to be worth more than $9 million.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Bradshaw on the show, angered the owners in 2014 when she used the steps for a photo shoot to promote her Nordstrom shoe line.
“The owners are up in arms as they deal with relentless tourists, and SJP has ignored their requests for an explanation about how it could support filming, even though there are ‘no trespassing’ signs up,” a source told the New York Post in the time.
Fans and tourists lined the block Wednesday.

Since hitting screens in 1998, the show ran for 94 episodes over six seasons until 2004.
