Set for Life lottery winner discovered she had made $20,000 a month for 20 years thanks to her husband’s constant harassment

A retired woman discovered she made $20,000 a month for 20 years just because her husband insisted she “check the money.”

The West Australian couple bought a Set for Life ticket from Northam Central Newsagency, about 100 kilometres south of Perth, for the August 2 draw.

Lotterywest has announced that Newsagency has sold the only Division One winning ticket in the country.

Unaware that they had won the prize, the couple left the ticket on the kitchen table and forgot about it for several days.

However, it was only when her husband insisted that she check the ticket that she discovered they had won a whopping $4.8 million.

The couple will receive monthly payments of $20,000 over the next two decades until the amount is paid off.

“My husband kept asking me if I had checked my ticket,” she said.

‘Life got in the way, but I eventually managed to check the ticket and discovered we had won.

“No wonder my husband asked me to check the ticket. I guess in this case, my husband knows best.”

The couple hope to use their winnings to help pay their children’s mortgages.

Lotterywest spokesman James Mooney said the win was helping a whole family and not just the retired couple.

“I’m sure there are some very grateful and excited children out there thanks to the generosity of their parents,” Mooney said. Perth now.

“We look forward to seeing more WA players share in the joy of winning after tonight’s $50 million Powerball jackpot.”

Mr Mooney explained that the ticket became Western Australia’s first Set for Life winner for 2024, bringing the national Division One tally to 28.
