Series C player becomes the first professional football player in Italy with the coronavirus diagnosis and has placed himself in voluntary quarantine
A player in the third division of Italian football is the first professional footballer in the country to be diagnosed with corona virus.
The killer virus continues to spread with more than 2,800 deaths worldwide and it has now moved to the world of football for the first time.
The affected player, who plays for US Pianese ASD, is 22 years old, but has not been named, according to the La Nazione newspaper.

A statement on Thursday read: “Two new suspected positive cases of Coronavirus in Tuscany. Both are awaiting confirmation from the Higher Institute of Health.
“One is a 22-year-old man in the province of Siena, a Pianese player, who had symptoms last Saturday at a hotel in Alessandria, where he trained with the team prior to Sunday’s game [at Juventus U-23s]. “
Pianese is currently 19th in Group A of Series C – the regional third division of Italy – and are located in the Tuscany region in the west of the country.
According to the reports, the player has quarantined himself before testing positive for COVID-19.
