Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is fit and back for the run-up to the club’s La Liga title and the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea next Wednesday, coach Zinedine Zidane said.

“He trains with us and that means he can also play,” Zidane told a press conference.

“We’ll see what we do when we name the squad, but Sergio is fit and ready to play.”

La Liga seems to have won the best title in recent years, as only three points separate the top four: Atletico Madrid, Real, Barcelona and Seville.

Defending champion Real is second with 71 points, two behind Atletico, with five games to go.

“La Liga is always such a tough competition and it will stay that way until the end,” said Zidane.

‘We want to win this league title, we know it will be difficult, but we will do everything for it until the end of the season.

‘Obviously there have been a lot of games, players have had problems, but in a season everything happens. Most importantly, we are ready to go into battle. ‘

Zidane confirmed that fullback Ferland Mendy and midfielder Federico Valverde will both miss Osasuna’s visit, as will long-term absentees Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal.

The Frenchman also said defender Marcelo will be available for the Champions League return leg against Chelsea on Wednesday, despite having been called up to work in a polling station for Monday’s regional elections in Madrid.
